Glee's Darren Criss (Blaine) hit up the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the JW Marriott Los Angeles on April 20, and guys? Dude put on quite a show. Not only did Darren look positively hunky in his sleek fitted suit (move over, Don Draper), he performed Carly Rae Jepsen's mega-hit "Call Me Maybe."
But this wasn't just any performance. Darren switched up Carly's world-famous lyrics and called for the end of Prop 8 and DOMA.
"I was gonna play a very poignant jazz standard, but then I got a text from my friend Carly Rae Jepsen, and she said 'you have to sing the original lyrics to my song!'" Darren told the audience. "And I was like 'I don't think that's very appropriate for this event.' And she said, 'no, no, no the original lyrics are a lot better than what's on the radio now. Just play it."
Darren's revamped lyrics? "Hey, hey Supreme Court, we say no hate, so good bye DOMA, and so long Prop 8! Send out your invites for the wedding day. So long DOMA and goodbye Prop 8!"
If you aren't in the know, Proposition 8 is a California amendment that bans same-sex marriage, while DOMA (Defense Against Marriage Act) restricts marriage recognition to opposite sex couples.
If Darren's version of "Call Me Maybe" doesn't get you inspired to protest Prop 8 and DOMA, we don't know what will.
