At Comic-Con 2012, we learned that Glee Project Season 1 winner Damian McGinty (Rory) — who appeared in close to every Glee episode last season — will not be returning for Season 4. Glee creator Ryan Murphy later tweeted that Rory would be back for the Thanksgiving episode, but the jury's still out on any episodes after that.
So,what will life be like for Damian now that he’s not singing and dancing at the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood close to 24-7? The former Glee star has a handful of new projects in the works. No new TV gigs yet, but he’s still got plenty going on in the music world.
Back in June, Damian and his childhood best friend, Oran O'Carrol, opened up their very own recording studio in their hometown of Derry, Ireland.
“When Damian heard of my plan to open a studio in Derry he really wanted to become involved and decided to become a partner," Oran tells the Derry Newswire. The two named their studio Audio Booth, and it’s website and Facebook page.
“Tomorrow, producing the first man in the new recording studio. In the early stages of starting a record label too. Watch this space! :)” Damian tweeted on July 15.
He followed up the next day, saying, “First recording done in @audio_booth . Sounds great. Very excited. Only a week left at home, then back to L.A.”
Los Angeles isn’t the only place he’s headed! On July 17, Damian posted on Facebook that he’s “finally able to return, and once again join Phil Coulter and friends Tranquility cruise.” Phil is the famed Irish producer and musician who gave Damian his start. The men are set to embark on their cruise in January 2013.
Plenty of fans have been asking if Damian will rejoin Celtic Thunder, the traditional Irish folk group he had to step down from in August 2011 after landing his role on Glee. As neat as this would be, the group did fill Damian’s spot after he left, and we’ve heard no talk of him rejoining yet.
So far, Damian has been enjoying his vacation at home and then heading back to Los Angeles, where he’s roommates with fellow Glee Project vet Cameron Mitchell. The two friends are currently teaming up to work on music. Damian will be recording the songs, and Cameron's producing them. We can't wait to hear some of the finished tracks!
