For the first four seasons of Glee, Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) were the show's leading couple, so when fans discovered back in February 2012 that actors Lea Michele and Cory Monteith were dating in real life, too — it’s safe to say that the entire Internet pretty much imploded on itself.
Lea and Cory celebrated their one year anniversary as a couple on Valentine’s Day — yes, Valentine’s Day — 2013, and fans had spent that year following every last moment of their adorable relationship.
When Cory admitted that he’d “kind of always” had feelings for his co-star, we swooned. Like, a lot. When Lea said Cory was both her “best friend” and her “celebrity crush,” we just about had a heart attack from cuteness overload.
These two certainly weren’t carbon copies of each other. Their differences are many. He grew up in Canada, while she’s from the Bronx. He was 31, she just turned 27. She’s a petite 5’2”, while he towered over her at 6’3”.
But you know what? As a couple, they just worked. Their chemistry couldn't be beat, and it was obvious how much they loved spending time together.
On July 13, 2013, Cory and Lea’s real-life romance came to a tragic end. Cory was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room of an accidental heroin and alcohol overdose, just months after completing a trip to rehab that April.
Realizing that he is truly gone, and that Lea and Cory’s relationship has met a sudden end — that is just really hard to take. Whether they were taking romantic vacations, or just hanging out together on set, we couldn’t get enough of Cory and Lea’s real-life romance. The two were together for over a year and a half. Our hearts go out to Lea during this difficult time.
