We already had a time jump in Glee Season 5 when the show fast-forwarded from graduation in McKinley to post-high school life in New York City, and now Ryan Murphy, co-creator of the FOX dramedy, is bracing fans for yet another time jump between Seasons 5 and 6, just when we started to get comfortable again!
Ryan hasn’t said much about the latest time jump other than telling TVLine and a small group of other outlets that it will happen. “We are going to do a time jump,” he declared. He also noted that Season 6 will have a location all it’s own, and when coupled with news of the time jump we must admit that we’re feeling a bit uneasy. Blaine (Darren Criss), Sam (Chord Overstreet), Artie (Kevin McHale), Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer), Santana (Naya Rivera) and even Mercedes (Amber Riley) have just settled into the Big Apple and now we’re going to move them again in just a few episodes?!
Worries aside, we should also point out that the idea of a new locale and a different timeline is intriguing and also means that we only have four episodes left in NYC before the Episode 20 Season finale on May 20. Where will the Lima, Ohio natives go next? Will they all head somewhere else as a group, or will they be split up once more? Will we fast-forward several years into the future or just a few months?
An upcoming episode synopsis suggests that Rachel auditions for a TV pilot, so maybe she ditches New York and Broadway in favor of Los Angeles and sunny weather? If Kurt follows her out west then maybe, just maybe we’d be on board for that, but we’ll need a resolution to the Funny Girl storyline first, and we’d prefer the time jump to be on the smaller side. We’re not ready to see Rachel battling a midlife crisis just yet!
What do you think about the time jump that’s set to occur between seasons 5 and 6? Sound off below!
Glee Season 5 airs Tuesday nights on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.
