The Good Wife Season 5 Spoilers: What Happens “The Next Day” and Beyond?

If last week’s episode of The Good Wife wasn’t exciting enough for you, it may be time to cut back on whatever you’re on. (Or up the dosage?)

Season 5, Episode 5, "Hitting the Fan," was arguably the best episode the show has ever had. It was like Survivor: Lockhart/Gardner vs. Florrick/Agos.

So what happens this week on Episode 6, "The Next Day"? Here’s the official synopsis: “When Alicia and Cary represent a client who has left Lockhart/Gardner to go with Florrick/Agos, Will and Diane intentionally delay turning over the case files to the new firm. Also, Marilyn, Peter's ethics council, tries to give advice to Alicia, and Will's colleagues are surprised at the new intensity he displays in the wake of the upheaval at the firm.”

Note: This week, The Good Wife airs at a special time — Sunday, November 3 from 9:30-10:30 p.m. Richard Kind guest stars as Judge Davies, Mamie Gummer returns as Nancy Crozier and Edward Herrmann returns as Lionel Deerfield.

At the end of last week’s ep, we saw Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) tell Eli (Alan Cumming) he wants other candidates for the judgeship that had been considered a lock for Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski). Surprisingly enough, Julianna Margulies (Alicia Florrick) told the Huffington Post Alicia will love her husband’s move. "It's bringing her back to him in a way where she's seeing he's taking care of her in a way that he never did," she said. "But it's also completely unethical."

Expect that Peter-as-gov-elect card to be played many times. For example, HuffPo said, in Episode 10, Florrick/Agos & Associates have a holiday party to attract clients, and when RSVPs are slow to come in, Cary (Matt Czuchry) asks Alicia to invite Peter.

Matt Czuchry talked to E! News about the new dynamic between Cary and Alicia as partners. “Yeah, I think part of the hype with Season 5, where we are now, is because again, all the history of these characters being built up, you have Will and Diane and now you have the new Will and Diane, with Alicia and Cary. I think the very idea of starting the firm is so romantic and so grand, but then when you actually get into the nuts and bolts of it, it becomes incredibly challenging to make it come to fruition. So with it, Cary and Alicia are going to face a lot of different challenges.”

Will Gardner (Josh Charles) ended last week by vowing to destroy the competition. Matt teased how heated the battle will get. “It's going to be a bitter rivalry. I think you kind of have the feeling of the intensity this episode. There's an incredible intensity there, and these battles are going to be more intense and bitter because of the stakes that are involved, talking about stealing clients or taking clients or keeping clients or trying to change your career and build up a livelihood through Florrick-Agos. These are high stakes elements for both parties, so it's going to be bitter and it's going to be tense and it's going to be heated and painful and passionate.”

But Will vs. Alicia isn’t all bad, Julianna teased to HuffPo. “Right now, it's just devastating for both of them, but what I love is how [the writers] wrote [Alicia and Will] of very similar mind. You see them go at each other in court and have tremendous mutual respect for one another's minds. She watches what he's doing and he sees how she's one-upping him -- It's almost, I hate to say it, but sexier than a sex scene in watching them. It turns them both on ..."

Nice! She also teased major things to come. “[E]verything is building up to a specific point. I haven't seen the actual written episodes yet, but I can tell you that the tension build up and the idea of this separation, come Episode 15 will come full circle."

Are you excited to see what happens next? Do you think Will and Alicia will ever find a way back to each other, beyond getting turned on by the fight?
