3 Reasons Georgina Sparks Is NOT the Real Gossip Girl
As Monday’s episode – aptly titled “G.G.” – reached its conclusion, we were left with a serious shocker: Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg)… is Gossip Girl!?
Our brainwaves went into overdrive as we tried to make sense of the mystery. Mostly we were stuck on the first word that came to mind... “REALLY?” While the outcome is anybody’s guess at this point, we’re playing devil’s advocate on the revelation. Our suspicion is that Georgina caught wind of the shake-up with GG when she returned to town, and took advantage of a prime opportunity. (How she managed to crack GG’s password, well, we haven’t figured that out…)
We could be wrong, of course, but here are three solid reasons why we’re pretty sure we’re not…
She said it herself, she was abandoned in Belarus!
While Georgina still exists when she’s not invading the lives of our dearest UES friends, she has been out of the city and out of the loop before. Sure, she could be posting tips from afar, but – really? – from bible camp? We doubt it. Every time she arrives back on the scene, it always feels like she’s doing just that – returning after an absence. She gets into her destructive groove quickly, but she does play catch-up. Case in point…
She had to read about B’s wedding the day it was happening.
When she first emerged in Monday’s episode, Georgina was all a-gawk at that NYC tab reporting on Blair’s wedding. She appeared relatively unaware of the whole mess – and claimed ignorance because of her Brooklyn residency, but c’mon, this thing’s been going on for months! – and then definitely seemed to be concocting her wacky, wedding-ruining plan as she went along. Which leads us to...
She’s not nearly as organized as we imagine Gossip Girl would be.
Considering how many times things went awry throughout the day at the wedding, we just can’t see how Georgina could double as the Upper East Side’s most in-the-know, strategic evil genius. We give Georgina points for her well-timed misdeeds, but can’t overlook the fact that they always appear relatively haphazard. That just wouldn’t be in line with the Gossip Girl we know and love, now, would it??
