Who knew all the drama of the Upper East Side was intense enough to expand into two coasts? Between trying to keep a story from going to the presses, wiping out on motorcycles, planning a royal wedding, and playing a game of “Who’s Expecting?”, we almost forgot to stop and smell the fashion from Gossip Girl’s Season 5 premiere. Almost.
Lucky for you (and thanks to our DVRs), we reviewed every last outfit to determine the best and the worst of this inaugural ep: Who looked stellar on set? Who failed to dazzle in their debut? Read on to find out!
Hot: Serena’s Bohemian Vibe
Serena seemed quite eager to live the West Coast lifestyle, and, as it turns out, the fashion suits her just fine. For her “‘It girl to working girl” transition, she traded her usual roster of micro minis for a more laid back look of maxi skirt and loose tank. But being Serena, she added touch of glam with a blinged-out vest, and the results were amazing. (Get the look here!)
Hot: Chuck’s Daredevil Duds
The California air also appears to agree with Chuck, as he tried out a new ultra-positive, say-yes-to-anything approach to life. Along with the new ‘tude came a new wardrobe as he shed his usual uniform of crisp suits for a brown leather bomber and motorcycle, all to which we say: Yes!
Hot: Blair’s Leafy Gown
Blair may not have had the chance to wear this unique number to the gala, but we’re certainly glad we got to take a peek. We had no idea novelty prints could look so glamorous. Paired with her pop-of-color clutch, B is looking more and more like a (modern-day) princess.
Not: Nate’s Mystery Lady’s Animal Print Wrap
Though the details of her name and occupation were spilled over the summer, she is still just Nate’s Hollywood fling as far as the spoiler-averse viewing audience is concerned. She may have had Nate mesmerized, but we we were unimpressed by the two outfits we saw her wear. Both skin tight knee-length cocktail dresses – in different prints. Don’t get us wrong, Elizabeth Hurley is a beautiful woman, but it’s sort of hard not to think “cougar” with an animal printed bosom being pushed in our faces.
Not: Nate’s Casual Party Attire
Nate, we weren’t that sure about the boring polo to begin with, and it certainly didn’t help when you tossed that blazer on top of it. Not to mention whatever your carrying in your pocket is bulging in a very unattractive fashion. We know you’re feeling lost these days, but... can we get some color? Some print? A haircut? (Thank you!)
