Blake Lively on Her Challenging Bombshell Role in “Graphic” Savages
We can't wait to see Blake Lively (Serena) break out her inner bad-girl in Oliver Stone's upcoming Savages! Blake plays Ophelia ("O"), a California bombshell who's kidnapped in a drug deal, but then things get dark — and her character is raped by Benicio del Toro's character, Lado.
Blake describes the flick as "terrifying," saying, "it’s so graphic, it’s so violent — and [my character] experiences such an arc. It’s challenging as an actor and it’s also challenging as a person, you know?”
Although Savages caters to a much older audience than The CW does, Blake feels a responsibility to her younger fans. “I’ve got a family, I’ve got nieces and nephews, and a young audience from [Gossip Girl] — that plays in too, she says. “And you have a responsibility to your personal life, too.”
Then again, Blake thinks Ophelia is a relatable character to people from all walks of life — including The Upper East Side! "The most important thing all along was telling the truth, and telling the heart of the story," Blake says. "I think [my character] is very much a modern young girl. She comes from new money, living in Laguna Beach, her mom is off with her 8 different husbands…and I think it really told a lot more of how a girl could end up this way."
OMG, did someone just say Laguna Beach? We've missed you, Stephen.
