With just a few more weeks left in Season 5, and rumors that The CW is unhappy with GG’s lackluster ratings, we’re nervous we won’t get to see our favorite storylines to their satisfying ends before these Upper East Siders leave us once and for all. No. With network execs already making their Fall 2012 TV lineups, sources claim The CW definitely wants more of our favorite Upper East Siders.
“We’re not writing a series finale this year,” show exec Stephanie Savage told reporters after Gossip Girl’s 100th episode. Executive producer Josh Safran weighs in, telling TVLine he's absolutely confident GG will be renewed. "We are not closing out this season with a series finale."
As for life beyond Season 5’s story arcs, Chace said that he’s appreciative of how well the show has done, saying, “There was no real way to gauge it, I guess, but we’ve had a great run, a really good run. So we’re still going, we’ve got maybe one more year left.”
Show insiders have confirmed there will most likely be a sixth season, but that it will be shorter than the usual 22-episode network order (The CW is rumored to be mulling a 13-episode season).
According to executive producer Josh Safran, "Everyone’s under contract, and as far as I can say, yes, everyone will be back." But, he teases, there may be a slight twist in "how" they return.
