Gossip Girl Season 6 Will Be Shorter — but HOW Short?
We all know from watching Monday’s Gossip Girl Season 5 finale that there’s a LOT set to go down in the show’s sixth (and confirmed to be final) season. Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) drama! Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) book stuff! Serena’s (Blake Lively) disappearing act! Lily’s (Kelly Rutherford) takedown!
But with news that Season 6 will be a shortened one — with new show The Carrie Diaries replacing it in its timeslot post-holidays — we had to wonder: How will they wrap it all up so quickly?
CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed to TV Line on July 30 that this final season will only have 10 episodes. He had earlier stated that the final number could be anywhere from 10-13, adding, “Obviously, it’s going to end before Christmas.”
Considering that GG has always premiered sometime in September, that seems to lend ample time to many an episode, right? Not so fast. Pedowitz says The CW is holding their premieres until early October to give them more “traction,” saying, “We can run straight through October and November without any repeats.”
So with Gossip Girl premiering on October 8, that means four Mondays in October and four Mondays in November. This should mean that Gossip Girl's final episode will air on Monday, December 10. Of course, that date is still subject to change a little based on scheduling.
In any case, GG will be over and done by the New Year. We’ll resolve to put on a brave face for 2013, but we’re not going to lie: It will be difficult. How totally strange is a world without Gossip Girl?
