As much as we’d like to be in denial about it, sooner or later we’re going to have to face the facts. Gossip Girl is ending this year. There will never be another episode again.

Of course, our favorite Upper East Siders will continue to live on in our hearts — and inside our DVD players — for years to come. And the show isn’t over quite yet!

Season 6 of Gossip Girl premieres on October 8, and we still get about 11-13 episodes before The Carrie Diaries takes over its its time slot on The CW Monday nights this January.

So far, no official Season 6 finale date has been released, but CW President Mark Pedowitz told TVLine, “Our goal is to run it in the fall and end it in the fall. Obviously, it’s going to end before Christmas.”

Last year, Gossip Girl aired its mid-season finale on December 5, so it’s likely that the Season 6 finale could air at a similar date. Though Mark says that the exact number of episodes hasn’t been determined quite yet, so that date could be off by a couple of weeks.

Of course, we’re very excited to see all the great things that Leighton Meester (Blair), Blake Lively (Serena), Ed Westwick (Chuck), and the rest will go on to do now that their time on the UES has come to an end. Still, it won’t be easy to say goodbye.

Better keep those jewel-encrusted tissue boxes handy, people. It’s going to be an emotional final season!
