We suspected that Gossip Girl might start losing big players this year. We just didn’t think the show runner would be the first to go.
According to Deadline, Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran is leaving the show at the end of this season to helm NBC’s musical drama Smash. Safran, who’s spent five years on Gossip Girl in various capacities, will replace Smash creator and showrunner Theresa Rebeck, who left Smash after it was picked up for a second season.
No word yet on who will replace Safran on Gossip Girl. We can do it! Call us. We’d be willing to bet that we can name more of the guys Serena’s slept with than some actual writers on the show.
