Gossip Girl

If you didn’t see the 100th episode of Gossip Girl, stop reading now, because what you’re about to hear will shake your world. If, however, you attended the royal wedding between Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Prince Louis Grimaldi (Hugo Becker) then you must have about a million questions right now.

Did Queen B really run off with Dan (Penn Badgley), after realizing she made a huge mistake? Where does that leave Chuck (Ed Westwick)? Or poor Serena (Blake Lively) who’s realized far too late that she still has feelings for Lonely Boy — where does she go from here? And is Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) really Gossip Girl?

Luckily, Wetpaint Entertainment had the exec producers of Gossip Girl, Stephanie Savage and Josh Safran, on hand, to answer all our burning questions.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Are you caving to fans who want Dan and Blair together?

Josh: I don’t think we viewing it as caving, but that story is going to go in an interesting direction.

Stephanie: I think that from the beginning we thought that there was a really strong connection between the two of them. The idea of these two people, one is the Queen Bee and one is the Lonely Boy, but they actually have a lot in common - and compared to their other friends this sense of intellectual curiosity, interest in things outside their own world. We always knew they were going to become friends. There was a question whether it was ever going to be more than that.

Josh: That still remains a question, but we’re definitely going with that story. 

What does that mean for Chuck and Blair?

Josh: Chuck and Blair are never over. There’s always been a thorn in the side of Chuck, and I think maybe it will be Dan.

But how much can a man take?

Josh: I think it’s a very tortured relationship for both of them, and I think in a weird way, sometimes people love that torture, and sometimes they can’t stand that torture, and that’s going to be the balance of what happens for a little while.

Stephanie: They’re young! It seems like a long time in the course of the show, but in the course of their actual lives, c’mon, four years of torture? Give me a break. (Laughs)

Are Blair and Serena going to be fighting over Dan?

Josh: Obviously it’s going to rankle Serena when she discovers what is happening between Blair and Dan, but I think these characters are growing up and you don’t necessarily go to Def-Con 4 when you find these things out. You maybe try to deal with them in a more rational, direct, honest manner. But that still doesn’t mean you can’t go to Def-Con 4. 

Based on the dream sequence, do you think Serena already knew on some level that Dan didn’t love her back?

Josh: I don’t think it’s about Dan not loving her back, but Serena feels like she might be losing things in her world right now. In your dreams everything isn’t exactly representational, just the idea that the ground is shifting underneath Serena.

Is Georgina Gossip Girl?

Josh: We will not answer that question. 

Can you talk about Chuck and Serena’s reaction to Blair and Dan running away together?

Josh: The next episode is a direct pick-up and is the same night, so the reactions are very much immediate. You’re going to be following them as they learn. You’re going to see them learn, you’re going to see what they do about it, how it impacts them. The story is definitely Chuck and Serena together dealing with Dan and Blair together.

What kind of consequences will Blair face from Louis?

Josh: All sorts of consequences. A lot. This is not taken lightly.

Can she seek an annulment?

Josh: That will be answered in the next episode.

How will the parents help out?

Josh: They definitely are very involved in her story from this point forward. They’re dealing also with what has happened, and in future episodes Blair seeks the council of her parents.

Why did you decide to take this turn with Louis?

 
Josh: We knew that she was going to test him, like just being [with] Blair would test anyone. We definitely always knew it would be him getting darker, because the closer you’re around all this scheming, all these people, the more it infects you. But what we liked is that they were able to reconnect and look at each other from this good place and yet this was just the final straw.  

Where do Blair and Dan go? Brooklyn?

Josh: You will learn that at the top of the next episode. It’s better than just going to Brooklyn. They go somewhere we’ve never shot before, that we’ve always wanted to shoot. It was a really complicated but super fun big great set piece, and also has in my mind some of the best comedy we’ve ever done. The next episode is very funny.
