It was clear after last night’s ep of GG that Chuck Bass may be heading back to his darker ways. Conspiring with a priest, following Blair around… these are not the activities of Good Chuck, y’know? But will his actions result in more hardship for he and bride-to-be /soulmate-of-his-liiiiiiife, Blair Waldorf???

E! Online is reporting that while Chuck (Ed Westwick) may not turn completely back to the dark side in the episodes to come, the show itself looks to be ― brace yourselves, Chair ‘shippers! ― taking a bit of a breath on the saga of the Waldorf-Bass bond.

“The thing is, maybe if Chuck and Blair (Leighton Meester) ever get together fully we want to earn that and take it to a new place,” executive producer Joshua Safran told E!. “But also I think Blair knows that now. I think it really isn’t just us going, ‘No, let’s keep them apart as long as we can.’ She has been with Chuck, she saw what went wrong, she is maybe nervous to get burned again. They’ve come close several times and so I also think that is what you do when you get older. She is not going to jump right back into it. She’s going to think about it.”

(And you thought Blair Waldorf was but a mere character on your TV screen! We kid, we kid… we get it. Blair makes her own decisions! Wait…)

“Of course we have to draw it out a little bit,” Safran said of the resulting dramz and fan reaction. “But like when [fans] say, ‘Why can’t Chuck and Blair just be together already?!’… It’s like well if they were together then we’d have to break them up in five minutes.”

Or they could, just, stay together forever! But there’s no drama in a solid relaysh…

As for Chuck’s story arc about being that “better man,” Safran says that’s gonna continue to be a struggle for the naturally devious fella. “The progress that Chuck has made, it suddenly becomes an uphill battle to maintain that progress and not slide back. The question becomes will he maintain that progress or will he slide back?”

Back-slide? Chuck Bass? In the face of losing his long-time love? Uh, yes, probably...
