With The Hunger Games hittin’ theatres this week (OMG!) – it seems no one is immune to the hype! Everybody is giving their two cents in about the film, the books and… their social implications?
Yeppp! Never one to let an opportunity pass him by to plug his fave cause, Gossip Girl actor Penn Badgley chatted after the premiere of the film last night with NY Mag about the movie’s totes obvious connection to the much-buzzed-about Occupy Wall Street movement…
“It’s the one percent [killing the kids],” Penn told the mag. “I think you’d have to be blind to not see that. I was shocked see all that in there.”
Penn attended the premiere with girlfriend Zoe Kravitz – whose father, Lenny, stars as Cinna – with whom he also shared commentary duties with while watching. “I was asking Zoe about that while we were watching it,” he said. “I thought it was just going to be the games. But then I realized, and I thought, ‘If this doesn’t end in revolution, it’s irresponsible, because of everything it’s bring up.’ If Katniss doesn’t become a f**king revolutionary, then I don’t know what they’re doing. And as it went on, I went, ‘F**k! That’s what they’re doing!’ Which is cool.”
But does Penn think the scaryyy culture that the film portends could actually come to fruition? Nahhh! “I would like to think that something like OWS and everybody’s morality, everybody’s consciousness would come into play and eradicate that kind of bizarre consumer culture,” he said.
