Has anyone ever noticed that everyone on the Upper East Side seems to have the same body type? You know, long-limbed and willowy. We're not sure if it's something in the water, but it helps to explain the mini trend of waist-enhancing dresses we saw in Episode 4.3. After all, if you have a tiny waist, we’re pretty sure you’re required to flaunt it.

There’s good news for the rest of us mere mortals: A simple cinch of the waist with a belt or tie is flattering on almost everyone. The better news? We’ve got hints on how you can get your own belted looks on the cheap. While all of our favorite Gossip girls seem to be avoiding the classroom, let’s do our homework on the fine art of belted looks.

When Blair first set foot on campus, we already knew it was only a matter of time before she settled into her rightful throne. Her lovely brown dress showed off a svelte figure, but the matching fabric waist tie sealed the deal in terms of style points. We’ve got a similar look that’s far more pocketbook friendly at $69.99:

While we weren’t the biggest fans of Serena’s boho dress, we do love that great sash-style belt she used to tie the look together. If you’re aiming for peasant chic, rein in the volume with a belt similar to the one paired with this $49 frock from Rampage:

One of the easiest ways to steal the show (all cat fights aside), is to wear something with a smattering of sequins. This Charlotte Russe option below is a great substitution to Blair’s couture at only $44.50. And it still features that silhouette-flattering cinch.
