You know you love him, XOXO.
During Monday’s Gossip Girl series finale, we learned that quiet, unassuming Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) has been the mysterious face behind Upper East Side blogger queen Gossip Girl all along.
Yet even though the facts behind the Dan-as-Gossip-Girl reveal seem to add up, we can’t help thinking that the choice seems a bit strange. So, did Gossip Girl producers really plan to have Dan be GG all along, or did they come to the decision more recently?
“I don’t think we ever had another choice in our mind,” Executive Producer Stephanie Savage tells TV Line. “It was always just a question of were we going to reveal it or not to reveal it.”
For most of the series, the identity of Gossip Girl didn’t seem to matter. Figuring out who she was has never really been a core mystery of the show. Stephanie said she struggled with whether to even reveal it at all.
“It was unclear if knowing Gossip Girl’s identity was something fans would want. Maybe it was more fun for everyone to not know who Gossip Girl was and be able to speculate and come up with your own ideas.”
But whether you liked finding out who Gossip Girl was or not, producers say they always planned for “her” to be Dan. Now that you’ve seen the finale, do you think they made the right choice?
