We Break the Code! Secret References From Gossip Girl Season 5 Premiere
Lots of Gossip Girl’s fictional happenings actually feature real places and real stars. Names are dropped so quickly it’s hard to keep track! But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are the whos, whats and wheres you need to know from the Season 5 premiere.
Mulholland Drive
In addition to being the subject of songs and an awesome David Lynch movie, LA’s Mulholland Drive is, indeed, a mad dangerous place to drive. It’s twisty and turny and mountainous, but also offers great views of LA’s splendor — kinda like, say, a girl who’s captivating and beautiful but sooo bad for you. No wonder Chuck fell for it — hard.
Jenny & Johnny
That happy little hippie couple chatting to Serena about music? Just two real musicians dropping into the Gossip Girl world. Indie pop duo Jenny and Johnny consists of Jenny Lewis and her boyfriend Johnathan Rice. Their debut album, I’m Having Fun Now, came out last summer.
Andy Cohen
“I keep telling Andy Cohen he should do Real House Arrests of New York City,” Rufus tells Dan. Since the Andy Cohen in question is the head honcho of the explosive Real Housewives franchise, we’re thinking this might be a legitimate addition to his growing empire. We’d watch!
Allegra Versace
As free-loving as Chuck is, he’s also a man with a type. Actually, several types: 1. Statuesque twins who are apparently open-minded about incest; and 2. Heiresses to couture empires. That explains why he would have been interested not just in Allegra Versace’s boat, but in “winning” her as well. Allegra’s the daughter of Donatella Versace and the niece of slain designer Gianni Versace, who left her 50% of the Versace company.
