GOSSIP GIRL’S BODACIOUS BLAKE LIVELY IN PARTY PATTERNS
Blake is definitely where the party’s at in this flirty, patterned Marchesa strapless dress. OMG, she’s *so* adorable, and I love the way she wears this dress (because it could easily be wearing her), BUT the one thing I noticed right away is that the dress is so loud it could stand a more laid-back approach. Blake’s a true-blue California girl, and I’d love to see her channel the sun and sand by wearing her hair down in beachy waves in a messy center part. For this effortless ‘do, I spritz on salt water spray (try Frederick Fekkai Beach Waves, $23), and then let my hair air dry.
I also think a bold cocktail ring would be a better accessory than her matchy-matchy bracelet. This might sound surprising, but J. Crew is my go-to for inexpensive and totally amazing statement jewelry. (My current fave is this Crystal Bloom Ring. Can you believe all that gorgeousness is only $50?!) The shoes could also stand to be a little less simple: an unexpected and edgy ankle bootie could bring this outfit up to the next level. For booties, Aldo has some hot, affordable options!
Read on for Whitney's take on Lea Michele's LBD...
Though I absolutely love this Romona Keveza dress and Lea’s elegant and pared down approach to rocking it, there are a few tiny tweaks I think could really spruce up this look for holiday. First thing I’d do is add a pop of color with a pair of fun rhinestone studs. Take a peek at Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and you’ll see how effective a little bling can be! You can find affordable costume jewelry at vintage stores and they’re usually in the range of $10 - 30 for the most fab pair. And here’s a hint: If you find a pair of to-die-for clip-on earrings that you love but hate the actual clip-on, you can always take them to a jeweler to get a post put on. This usually costs around $20 - 40. The other teensy thing I would do is get a little more festive with the shoes: glitter, sequins, metallics — don’t shy away from adding a little holiday cheer in the most unexpected places.
Here are my three favorite stores for vintage jewelry:
- New York Vintage (Midtown Manhattan)
- Resurrection Vintage (Los Angeles and New York)
- Fairfax Flea Market (Every Sunday in Los Angeles at Fairfax High School)
Read on for Whitney's take on Snooki's sequined stunner...
I am absolutely *loving* metallics this time of year. I think holiday dresses are meant to be loud, and Snooki’s sequined stunner is so perfect for a holiday dance party. Under all that bling, you might notice that this dress has a sexy, body-conscious silhouette, which could’ve been further shown off if Snooki had done away with the shimmery scarf and thrown her hair up into a loose top-knot bun. I’d add a small, punky pyramid stud earring (try these insanely cheap and cool pyramid stud earrings With Love from CA), and a shimmery eye and pink lip (I’d suggest Victoria’s Secret Silky Eye Shadow - Sparkle in Fierce,$10, and MAC’s Viva Glam GaGa, $14.50).
