While we’re having a hard time directing our attention toward annnything but Blair (Leighton Meester)’s upcoming royal wedding ― bachelorette party schmachelorette party, where’s the Vera Wang?? ― it may be be just as important to look beyond it at what the future holds for our favorite band of Upper East Siders...
Face it, whether that wedding happens or not, there’s no way it’s gonna end in lifelong marital bliss for Blair, a’right?? So... will it be Chair in the end? Dair? Maybe Derena? Does anyone know?!
Turns out... maybe not.
Sexy pose? Half-unbuttoned shirt? Even when he’s about to get the crap kicked out of him, Chuck Bass always looks good.
In a recent chat with E! Online, executive producer Joshua Safran dished that the fates of our dear pals have yet to be determined by the powers that be, and, at this point, anything could still happen to any of ‘em!
“I really don’t know,” Safran said when asked if he has intel on which couples might be living happily-ever-after come series finale time. “I’m not saying that Josh [Schwartz] and Stephanie [Savage] don’t, but I don’t want to think about an endgame because when you think about where you want them to go, then it’s done in my head and it’s still living for me. That’s not to say that it won’t end exactly the way that half the audience wants it to ― unfortunately now it’s half of the audience ― but I just can’t say for sure. I can’t tie that up.”
…Have a field day with that one, Chair ‘shippers!
Safran also said that though confirmation has yet to come from the CW that there will be a sixth season, the GG writers are currently writing the Season 5 finale and “are not breaking it as if it is the series finale.” He adds, “There is definitely a lot more story to tell.”
We agree! (And, seriously, we beg of you, fans, watch now like you’ve never watched before and booost those ratings! We don’t want a cliffhanger season-ender to wind up as our series finale, DO WE?!)
“I think we’re looking at a sixth season as our hope for now,” Safran said. “I’m hoping it goes another year and then I think if it were to end then, it’d be okay. If it were to continue, I’d be super happy as well.”
For now, though, Safran echoes earlier sentiment that the royal wedding will hold delights for fans new and old. “I really wanted it to pay homage to the pilot and all the episodes before,” he said of the ep. “We really did our research. We watched a lot of the episodes again. I’ve been there since the second episode... so I tried to put in winks and nods and little grace notes and touches. I think it’s a really great episode and every one of our leads has a full story.”
