The fate of our dear Gossip Girl has been a topic of discussion lately amongst many fans and TV enthusiasts. Ratings are down this season, cast members are becoming bona fide movie stars, and the characters are inching their way further and further toward adulthood and away, it would seem, from their frivolous pursuits of yore.

Though the contracts for the cast run through another season (what would be season 6), those almighty ratings could affect the show’s run, some have argued, leaving season 5 and its weddings and babies the end of the line for our favorite band of UESers...

But the verdict from the 100th episode party this weekend pointed, happily, in an entirely different direction!

Executive producer Joshua Safran told Entertainment Weekly that no one with the show has received any indication from powers-that-be that they should be worrying about wrapping up storylines, and they are definitely heading for a sixth season. That sentiment was echoed by Peter Roth, president of Warner Bros. Television, who said, “I can’t really say at this point, but I would hope and expect that there would be at least another year, if not years, to come.”

And, it would seem, planning is already well under way for where things go from here... While Safran says the writers have six more episodes to write, exec producer Stephanie Savage said that the season finale would leave fans desperately wanting to tune in next season!

The smell of BLAIR drama is the air, wouldn’t you say? With perhaps a hint of something more... perhaps something a little Dair-ing?

What are your best guesses for what the next months and years of these characters’ lives might look like? We’ve gotta stick to Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) making it in the end, but with added time in the middle, we have a feeling the writers will give them room to breathe apart for awhile...
