Serena does not want to attend the upcoming debutante ball, but her high-society grandmother, CeCe, manipulates her into going. Unfortunately, Dan isn't exactly CeCe's idea of a prime escort for her granddaughter. She makes her opinion more than obvious, which creates a rift between the young couple. Nate misses Blair and asks her to go to the ball with him; she accepts, but only as a friend. A jealous Chuck then tricks a jealous Nate into suspecting that Blair is seeing someone else. So many lies! Meanwhile, social-climbing Jenny finds herself faced with the decision to either attend her mother's art opening or go to the debutante ball—against her parents' wishes.
