History was made tonight when Best New Artist winners Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert turned their hit song “Same Love” into a live, on-stage wedding ceremony for 33 gay and straight couples at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

The song — which was nominated for Song of the Year — has become a bit of a gay marriage anthem, with lyrics like "A certificate on paper isn't going to solve it all/but it's a damn good place to start." And the tune became even more poignant tonight when it was the background for almost three dozen nuptials.

Halfway through the song, Queen Latifah came out and introduced the couples scattered throughout the Staples Center. She then began to officiate the ceremony as a tearful audience watched the couples be joined in matrimony.

And as if that weren’t enough, Madonna emerged from behind the holy arches to sing “Open Your Heart” and then join Mary Lambert on the hook to “Same Love.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
