Blake Shelton “Still on a High” From Grammy Performance With Willie Nelson

We know from his candid talk about drinking that The Voice coach Blake Shelton loves him some swill but, based on what he tweeted after his Grammy performance last night with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Kris Kristofferson (the latter of whom was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Grammy), he may be known to dabble in — ahem — other arenas. His tweet will give you the 4:20 4-1-1 on what we mean.

Still on a high after that performance last night.... For lots of reasons,” the successful country star tweeted.

Although the “Mine Would Be You” singer didn’t win in the two categories he was nominated for last night — losing to Darius Rucker for Best Country Solo Performance and to Kacey Musgraves for Best Country Album — he still came out a winner for having performed with the country legends. In fact, before Grammy night began, Blake had said this collaboration was much bigger than the nomination.

"This is an absolute dream come true, well beyond being nominated for a Grammy," Blake said.

He went on to talk about what it felt like to be included with such icons, saying, “It doesn't make me feel like one of them as I can't imagine how I could be, but what I do know is it does give me bragging rights to my generation.”

The performance started out with Willie and Kris’ duet of “The Highwayman,” at which point they were joined by Merle and Blake for Merle’s mega-hit, “Okie From Muskogee”. The group finished things off with a rousing performance of “Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” which had everyone in the room swaying along with them.

No wonder he was on a high. That is what he meant, right?
