First Look: Grant Gustin on Arrow — Glee Actor a Geeky Superhero (VIDEO)

From “Smooth Criminal” to bona fide superhero! Glee guest star Grant Gustin, who played villainous Warbler Sebastian on the Fox comedy, is making his big debut as Barry Allen (aka The Flash) on The CW’s superhero drama, Arrow. Oh, and it’s happening this Wednesday!

On December 4, Grant will make his Arrow debut in Season 2, Episode 8. He won’t be his red spandex-wearing alter ego quite yet. For now, the character is just an unassuming tech geek. But he’ll soon develop a superhero ego, and Grant’s even getting his own Flash pilot, which will start filming for the CW soon!

But back to tomorrow night’s ep. Arrow Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg says he really didn’t expect to find his next action hero on a comedy show about singing and dancing. “We did an exhaustive search to try and find our Barry Allen, and it turns out, he’d been on Glee.”

The clip includes the first footage of Grant in character as the unassuming, nerdy Barry. He doesn’t exactly make the strongest impression. “Who the hell are you?” Det. Lance asks him. Oliver Queen (Arrow) adds snarkily, “And do your parents know that you’re here?”

“I’m Barry Allen,” Grant’s character says, fumbling for his credentials. “From the central city police department. I’m with the crime scene investigation unit.”

But this unassuming entrance is all part of what makes Barry unique, and what will make his transformation into The Flash all the more impressive. “We weren’t looking for someone who was another big, square-jawed hero the way that Stephen [Amell, who plays Oliver Queen/Arrow] is,” Andrew says.

“Our version of Flash is a very different character, and Grant is smart and funny and charming and witty and yet still strong. We’re so impressed by him. It’s really hard to step into a long-running show and just feel like you fit in and you belong. Grant does that so amazingly well.”

By the end of the video, Grant’s character has already been asked out on a date by Arrow’s right-hand tech geek, Felicity Smoak. Sparks fly between the timid Barry and Felicity — something that fans of Felicity’s palpable chemistry with Oliver will not be too happy about.

Sad to say it, Olicity fans, but we kind of like the idea of the geek getting the girl this time around especially when said geek is Grant Gustin. Then, it pretty much has to happen.
