Greta Gerwig is going from Frances Ha to sitcom ha-has as the star of How I Met Your Dad, the proposed spin-off of How I Met Your Mother.
The project is still in the pilot stage, meaning CBS will use one episode of the show to decide whether or not to order it to a full series.
The pilot was written by Up All Night creator Emily Spivey alongside How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas — and is only related to HIMYM in its spirit.
According to TVLine, Greta will play "soulmate-searching Sally, a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year."
Sally realizes that a divorce is inevitable, and her well-meaning friends and family are quick to provide not-so-good advice.
Greta earned a Golden Globe nomination this year for her performance in Frances Ha, playing the titular dreamy character. The 30-year-old is also credited for her involvement in the mumblecore film movement — an indie genre characterized by low production value, amateur actors, and naturalistic dialogue — thanks to her roles in Hannah Takes the Stairs, LOL, Baghead, and Nights and Weekends.
In addition to being the show's star, Greta will also participate as a producer and occasional writer — assuming CBS gives the pilot a go-ahead. Here's hoping!
