It’s hard to see them as anyone but Grey Sloan Memorial employees, but the Grey’s Anatomy cast did have careers before they were cast on the ABC hit.

One was a Musketeer, one was a Roman soldier, one was a Hotness Monster, and one was a Britney Spears video babe, just to cite a few examples.

Justin also appeared in rom-com The Wedding Planner as Jennifer Lopez’s would-be fiancé, Massimo.

The Los Angeles Times said Chandra’s character in the short-lived 2001 ABC sitcom Bob Patterson was the show’s saving grace — she played Claudia, the assistant to the titular character, who was played by Jason Alexander in one of his post-Seinfeld gigs.

Chandra also took small roles in TV shows like The Cosby Show, Law & Order, Sex and the City, and The Sopranos and films like Philadelphia and Head of State.

Before Grey’s, Jesse’s biggest roles were purely for eye candy — he played Leo in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (pictured here) and Drew “The Hotness Monster” Collins in Greek.

Had HBO picked up the pilot The Washingtonienne, he would have co-starred with two other Grey’s actors: Kate Burton and Rachael Taylor.

We all know Caterina came to Grey’s by way of spin-off Private Practice, but before that, she headlined her own show, Missing, which ran from 2003 to 2006.

She played an FBI agent who developed psychic abilities after getting struck by lightning. (Yes, really).

She also starred in 2009 Syfy miniseries Alice, playing the lead role in the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland retelling.

Jason starred in the ABC dramas Mistresses and Off the Map — the latter of which was a Shondaland production — but both of those roles actually came after his first Grey’s appearance.

So instead, we’ll take it all the way back to the late ‘90s, when he starred in 352 episodes of the NBC soap opera Sunset Beach, playing lifeguard Michael Bourne.
