‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Cristina Appeared in Season 11 at Derek’s Funeral
Even though she has a new life in the alpine climes of Switzerland, Cristina is always there for Meredith on Grey's Anatomy. We finally have confirmation she was by Mer’s side after her husband, Derek, died in Season 11.
Don’t think you missed Sandra Oh reprising her most famous role, though. The 44-year-old’s last appearance on Grey’s is still the Season 10 finale. For this graveside scene, producers filmed a body double holding Meredith’s hand.
The key moment comes exactly 8 minutes into Season 11, Episode 22: “She’s Leaving Home, Part 1,” but you can see it in a low-res clip below.
Craftily, we only see the double from behind, so she only needed to match Cristina’s long, dark, curly hair, which she does.
“I presume Sandra was busy and unavailable for that episode, which was the only reason why [a body double was used]. That funeral sequence was meant to imply that Cristina was obviously there for Meredith. Her presence was felt.”
Well, if we can’t have Sandra Oh, at least we have confirmation that Cristina didn’t abandon her “person” in Mer’s hour of need.
Grey’s Anatomy returns on Thursday, February 11, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
