‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Episode 24 Recap: “Ring of Fire”
It’s time for Grey’s Anatomy to say goodbye to another character.
On Thursday’s shocking Season 13 finale, “Ring of Fire,” fans quickly learn Dr. Stephanie Edwards — played by Jerrika Hinton — survives the explosion that killed the alleged rapist from last episode.
Though she survives, Stephanie is tasked with saving Erin, the little girl stuck in the hospital.
As the fire travels through the hospital, Stephanie makes the smart decision to head to the roof, where they wait for help to arrive.
Thankfully both Stephanie and Erin survive the fire, but Steph is badly burned and spends days being treated by her fellow doctors.
In fact, the trauma is enough to send the doctor on a new path — one that doesn’t involve hospitals.
“I spent my whole life in hospitals, my whole life. I need to travel and hike and breathe,” Stephanie says to Richard towards the end of the episode.
“I want to breathe it all in, away from the monitors and the blood and the sterile counts and away from saving other people’s lives — I want my own. This time, I live my own,” she continues.
“You’ve changed my life, Dr. Webber. You have. You taught me how to take my past and find my path. Thank you, thank you. I think I found it. Which means, I quit.”
While the fire is tearing apart Grey Sloan Memorial hospital, Owen finally sees his sister, Megan, alive for the first time — though it’s just the back of her head — and gets much needed support from his wife, Amelia.
Mer promises him it’s true and, like the good person she is, convinces Nathan to go see her.
What do you think will happen to Meredith and Nathan next season? Are you sad to see Stephanie leave? Sound off below!
Season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy premieres in fall 2017 on ABC.
