Grey’s Anatomy Season 12: New Cadaver Lab Replaces McDream House Set
Yes, now that Derek has shuffled off this mortal coil, Shonda & Co. have decided to tear down the custom-built house he shared with Meredith on Grey's Anatomy.
It makes sense, though. Meredith has moved back into her mother’s old house with Amelia and Maggie and the revolving door of other surgeons who crash in the Seattle house. Besides, she probably finds it too painful to stay in the house she herself plotted out in candles for her happily-ever-after.
But the real reason we’ll never see the hilltop hacienda again? The producers wanted more space in the Prospect Studios soundstages where the ABC medical drama films, so they dismantled the McDream House set, as Entertainment Weekly reports.
But when one door closes, another opens… and that door leads to a bright and shiny cadaver lab that “will be home to a new anatomy class.”
“Meredith is surrounded by single women who are dating and having a whole life, and she’s not interested in that,” Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes explained at a recent TCA press tour.
So we could see Mer go from resident surgeon extraordinaire to cadaver-equipped teacher. Don’t forget your Trapper Keepers, students!
Grey’s Anatomy returns for Season 12 on Thursday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
