‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 14 Spoiler: Kim Raver Returning as Teddy Altman
We’ve officially got our first Grey’s Anatomy Season 14 spoiler!
Teddy was an army surgeon alongside Owen Hunt — and his sister, Megan Hunt, presumably — and he brought her on as Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the hospital, then called Seattle Grace Mercy West, to mentor his then-girlfriend, Cristina Yang.
Complications ensued, of course — Teddy and Owen had unresolved feelings for each other, and when she considered leaving the hospital, Cristina dramatically offered to give up Owen if she would stay.
Teddy eventually moved on from Owen and fell in love with a patient named Henry.
In two of the show’s saddest episodes, Owen had to keep Henry’s identity a secret from Cristina so that she could unemotionally operate on Henry, and then Owen had to keep Henry’s subsequent death secret from Teddy so that she could unemotionally operate on her patient.
Finally, Owen fired Teddy in the Season 8 finale, knowing that was the only way Teddy would accept her dream job: Head of Cardio at Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany.
Five years later, Teddy actually played into the storyline in this most recent season — Amelia Shepherd, Owen’s current wife, called her when Megan was found overseas after nearly a decade of captivity — but we neither saw Teddy nor heard her voice in that episode.
The Season 13 finale ended with Megan arriving in Seattle on a stretcher, so it makes sense that Teddy would accompany her and oversee the transition.
Deadline reports Kim will return to the show for a guest arc in Season 14, meaning she’ll appear in multiple episodes!
When Kim left at the end of Season 8, Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes said it was the actress’s decision.
“Kim’s series option was up and she was ready to give Teddy Altman a much-needed vacation,” she tweeted.
“It’s been a pleasure working with someone as talented and funny and kind as Kim; everyone is going to miss her terribly. I like to imagine that Teddy is still out there in the Grey’s Anatomy universe, running Army Medical Command and building a new life.”

Since her time on Grey’s, this 48-year-old actress has reprised her 24 role for the show’s Live Another Day revival and guest-starred in the shows Revolution, Bones, and APB.
She also starred in three pilots that didn’t get picked up to series: NCIS: Red, The Advocate, and Zoobiquity.
Just yesterday, June 19, news broke that she’d booked another surgeon role, a guest-star gig on Ray Donovan.
Now that Kim is a lock for Grey’s Season 14, we’re hoping Bridget Regan will be, too. We wouldn’t want to see the role of Megan Hunt recast!
Grey’s Anatomy returns for Season 14 this fall on ABC.
