“From the captain to the newest recruit, we follow these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.”

ABC gave the show a straight-to-series order, meaning the network doesn’t even need a pilot episode to determine its viability. That’s a strong show of confidence in Shonda Rhimes & Co.!

As far as we know, none of the Grey’s Anatomy cast members will star on the firefighter spin-off… though given how secretive Shondaland is, that’s always subject to change.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter this show will “feature largely” new characters, and the magazine thinks that means Jason George won’t jump ship, even though Ben Warren jived with the firefighters in the Season 13 finale.

“We talked about the elements of Grey’s Anatomy that seem to resonate with the audience — emotional storytelling, deep human connection, a high-stakes environment and strong and empowered women — and those elements will carry over to the spin-off,” ABC Studios president Patrick Moran told The Hollywood Reporter.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spin-off,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in the press release

“The discussions have been going on for a while — earlier than this season. It was up to Shonda to tell us when she had inspiration for something that made sense, which was pretty recent.”
