This season on Grey’s Anatomy, we’ve gotten to see a totally new side of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Usually all doom and gloom, our favorite “dark and twisty” doctor is finally lightening up. Grey’s has kinda trained us to expect nothing but drama for poor Meredith, but this season it seems like she’s finally gotten a break. And even though we love the excitement, we’re mostly just glad things have calmed down for her.

Here are some of Meredith’s best moments in Season 9:

Meredith becomes the voice of reason. For the first time, we’ve seen Meredith transform from worrier to comforter of the worried, whether she’s reminding Derek his hand would be able to operate again or helping Cristina through her hard times at the Mayo clinic. Maybe it was losing Lexie (something we’ve actually blocked out of our minds as something that’s really happened) or maybe it was becoming attending surgeon Medusa with the futures of her interns in her hands, but we’ve gotten to see a more motherly side of Mer this season. And speaking of motherly...

Meredith is finally pregnant. After seeing Mer struggle with not being able to get pregnant -- and then Zola’s rocky adoption -- we were super thrilled to find out she was finally pregnant this season. Meredith expected something to go totally wrong with her pregnancy (and knowing the Grey’s writers, so did we) but so far, it’s been smooth sailing. And okay, we kind of a little bit maybe cried a happy tear or two when she told Derek they were going to have a baby. We can’t wait to meet McBaby!

Meredith gets on a plane again. Meredith avoided planes for most of this season, and for good reason: the plane crash at the end of season 8 turned us off of air travel for awhile too. But when someone needed to go pick up an organ for her patient, Meredith stepped up to the plate and took her first flight since the accident. We were so proud of Meredith for facing her fears -- after a crash like the one she survived, we definitely would have been terrified.

Meredith finally gets tested for the Alzheimer’s gene. Meredith squashed yet another pretty big fear of hers this season: finding out if she will develop Alzheimer’s. Bailey’s new genome mapping project presented the perfect opportunity, and Meredith took it as a chance to prepare herself to do the best thing for Zola and her future baby. And even though she tested positive, it doesn’t mean she will definitely suffer from Alzheimer’s later in her life, and after a little bit of panicking, Meredith accepted that her future is unknown.
