We’ve known for a while that a doctor’s life would hang in the balance on the Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 finale (Episode 24: “Perfect Storm”), but the actual reveal was a completely game-changing shocker. In the final seconds of the episode, a fan favorite doctor was shown face down in a pool of water, presumably electrocuted and left for dead.

The doctor whose fate is in question? Richard Webber. But is he really dead? In true Shonda Rhimes fashion, we’ll have to wait until Season 10 to find out.

Honestly, we had no indication that he was going to die. He went to rescue a patient from an abandoned room, and it looked like he was successful. However, sometime in between his rescue attempt and the end of the episode, he must have either slipped and fell, been knocked over by something with the storm, or just collapsed, and the mix of water and sparking, exposed wires electrocuted him.

As we’ve seen in the past, though, this doesn’t necessarily mean he is dead. Remember when Izzie had cancer and coded, then in the next season’s premiere, she was alive and well? Fingers crossed that happens for Richard, too. Shonda has since confirmed he will be back, plus James was spotted at the 200th episode table read. Chances are, he's just fine!

Do you think Richard is dead, or will he be fine? Were you shocked by the reveal? Sound off below!
