Grey’s Anatomy has been on for nearly a decade, and we can’t imagine our Thursday nights without Meredith Grey’s (usually) calming voice over at the start of the episode, preparing us for disaster, hospital dramatics, or sometimes something happy. However, no one is ever safe from creator Shonda Rhimes, so any character could be killed off at any given moment. Does that include Mer?

Though a Meredith-less Grey’s would be empty in many ways, it doesn’t mean it couldn’t ever happen. To make us even more anxious of the idea, portrayer Ellen Pompeo made a joke on Twitter today, hinting at a Mer-less Grey Sloan Memorial come Season 10!

When a fan asked, “Any truth that Pacino is joining the cast next year?” Ellen responded playfully, writing, “Oh yes, actually Al is gonna replace me.”

Oh, Ellen. What a jokester. While famous film actor Al  Pacino couldn’t replace her (unless they went for some weird body-swapping episode), we think he could be an interesting addition to the cast. As for Meredith leaving? We highly doubt that will happen, but Shonda does have a way of surprising us...
