Patrick Dempsey isn’t just an actor. In his free time, the Grey’s Anatomy star is a race car driver, Tully’s Coffee chain owner, and an activist. While we’d love to see him awarded for his many talents, for now, it’s just the last one as he’s honored at the 2013 Do Something Awards!

This awards show isn’t celebrity-centric, though. Patrick is one of the five celeb honorees — also including Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Osbourne, and LL Cool J — while the rest is about five “do-gooders” under 25 who are “creating substantial change in our world” — and vying to win $100,000 for their cause.

Patrick is being recognized for creating and initially funding the Center For Hope and Healing, which provides free services, support, and education to cancer patients and their families. (This was after his mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.) The center’s primary fundraiser is “The Dempsey Challenge, an annual run/walk/cycle event that was founded in 2009,” and in 2011, it raised over 1 million dollars and had more than 4,000 participants. Bravo, McDreamy!

Former One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush is hosting the show, while stars like Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale, Cynthia Nixon, Malin Akerman, and more present awards.

The Do Something Awards airs live on Wednesday, July 31 at 8 p.m. ET on VH1 in Los Angeles. Will you be tuning in? Sound off below!
