When 31-year-old Glee star Cory Monteith died tragically of a drug overdose earlier this month, everyone was shocked. Since the heartbreaking news broke, many celebrities have come out of the woodwork to share their condolences for his family and friends, including those who only met him briefly or didn’t know him at all.

Recently, former Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane opened up to Glamour about his thoughts on Cory’s tragic passing, sharing memories of working with him at the 11th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, which he helped plan with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart. It was also Cory’s last public event in June.

"I just think it's very sad. It didn't have to end that way," Eric told Glamour’s Jessica Radloff at TNT’s 25th Anniversary Party. "I wouldn't want to be insensitive to him or his memory by relating it to something that didn't have to do with me. It's sad. I believe that he was sincere in what he said [to you about never giving up and persevering]."

Ultimately, Eric thinks that the only people that should talk about Cory are those who “knew him really well,” but he did add, "Cory was a really sweet, sensitive guy. It just doesn't have to go down that path."

Our thoughts go out to Cory’s family, friends, and co-stars. Do you agree with what Eric has to say about people who didn’t know Cory intimately talking about him? Sound off below.
