One of the questions on everyone's mind going into Grey's Anatomy Season 10 is whether or not Callie and Arizona's relationship will survive Arizona's cheating and the devastating fight that followed, and many fans are still angry at head honcho Shonda Rhimes for going in that direction in the first place. Does Shonda have any regrets about throwing a giant wrench in the Callie/Arizona relationship?

Based on a recent interview with the Huffington Post, no, not at all.

Many fans are upset about the idea of Callie and Arizona breaking up specifically because they're such a strong lesbian relationship, which is sadly still a rarity on network TV. However, Shonda cautions that "the definition of equality isn't that you behave as a saint. The definition of equality is that you get to behave like everyone else behaves, for good or for bad. You get to make mistakes, you get to be flawed, you get to fuck up, you get to be who you are."

Shonda certainly has a point that equal representation shouldn't necessarily mean treating certain characters differently than others, and in the world of Grey's, that means relationship drama. As Shonda explained, "I didn't want to get to a place where we were like, Callie and Arizona are in some sort of lesbian ghetto where they're just happy and holding hands and they never get to experience any drama."

Of course, plenty of fans would argue — rightly, in our opinions — that there are options other beside "no drama" and "cheating/possibly breaking up." Indeed, Callie and Arizona had already struggled all season because of Arizona's leg. Did they really need this, too?

Whatever side you take, Shonda isn't letting slip if the marriage will survive, so you'll just have to tune in to catch the drama unfold.

Do you agree with Shonda, or do you think she was wrong to do the cheating plotline with Callie and Arizona? Sound off in the comments below!
