Grey’s Anatomy knows how to pull at our heartstrings, and the Season 10 premiere is no exception. Though we’ve known that Meredith and Derek will be dealing with the “aftermath” of baby Bailey’s rough birth, they won’t be the only ones potentially suffering in the dramatic two-hour episode.
When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with star Sarah Drew (April Kepner) at the TCA All-Star party, she revealed that the medical drama opens up with a “depressing,” “intense,” and “heartbreaking” two-parter. Read on to see what else she has to say about it — including the “pain” and a bit of “funny stuff” — and what’s coming up for her. Spoiler alert: That love triangle isn’t going anywhere.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Where do we pick up in the season premiere?
Sarah Drew: We pick up in the premiere from the exact moment that we left off in the finale. So, Richard is on the ground, and I'm in the room facing Jackson, waiting for his response. Everything picks up right where we left off.
What can we say about the first episode?
Across the board?
There's a lot of pain in the first two episodes — yes, a lot of pain. There's funny stuff too, though. There's funny stuff mixed in with it, but it's pretty intense. And the premiere is a two-episode premiere, so it's two hours. And it's pretty intense.
Beyond that, when we get over the heartbreak, what is April’s arc?
April, this season, she's still going to be in this love triangle. Because, it's Grey's Anatomy, so they've got to milk it for all its worth. So we're going to milk that for a little while.
So, no closure then?
No closure. Not yet. We're dealing with that, and the other big thing for April is, she's going to take her boards again. And we're really going to see her start to emerge as a totally kick ass attending. We're going to see her be an awesome mentor, an awesome teacher. We're going to get to have more of that relationship with her mentor, with Owen, and she's going to be passing that on to the interns. We'll get to see a lot more interaction with her and the interns.
Catch the Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 premiere on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
