Since Sandra Oh announced her departure from Grey’s Anatomy earlier this summer, we’ve been wondering where a Cristina-less world will leave the show after this season ends in May — especially since rumors have been flying about the possibility of Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) and Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) following suit. But recently, they’ve opened up to the New York Post to finally set the record straight.

So what’s the verdict? “Of course I have thought about leaving,” Patrick said. “It’s always at the end of the season, when you are tired of having no control over your schedule, when you can’t see the forest for the trees, to know how fortunate you are.”

This is no surprise considering some of the comments he made earlier this summer. However, Ellen sees things a little differently.

“Actors always think the grass is greener somewhere else,” Ellen explained. “I have an amazing life. I have a house five minutes from the studio, I have a house in the Hamptons, a house in Malibu, a beautiful daughter whom I see every night, and it’s all because I didn’t leave Grey’s Anatomy.

That sounds hopeful, and our fingers are crossed that both of them will stay longer, even though their contracts expire at the end of this season. We can’t imagine Grey’s Anatomy without Cristina and Meredith and Derek! Besides, we’ve already lost McSteamy — we can’t afford to lose McDreamy, too.

Do you think Ellen and Patrick will hang around for a possible eleventh season, or do you think they’ll hang up their scrubs sooner rather than later? Let us know what you think below!
