Shonda Rhimes is TV royalty. With Grey’s Anatomy hitting its 200th episode on October 10, Scandal blowing up ratings across the board, and a handful of other projects in the works, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Considering Grey’s is in its tenth season and still going strong plus spin-off Private Practice airing for six seasons, it’s no surprise that Shonda has thought about more ways to expand her empire — including a potential second spin-off!

“I've thought about that. Every once in a while, I come up with a crazy idea,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “When we did our war episode where we saw Owen's past and the history of his PTSD, I always thought that was an amazing world, with the idea of a MASH unit. There are a lot of different worlds for a spin-off.”

However, don’t get too excited just yet — it’s not in the cards for now. She is quite busy, after all. “Right now, Grey's is doing its thing and doing it well, and we don't need another spin-off at this moment in time,” she said.

When Grey’s does finally come to a close, the doctors likely won’t ride off into the sunset or all perish in a freak accident, but fans’ guesses are as good as Shonda’s — she doesn’t know either!

While she “used to always have a final scene in mind,” she says they’ve “passed the time in which that ending would happen.” In fact, we’ve seen the “final scene” before — multiple times! “I had another final scene in mind, and I wrote it into an episode because I thought we were too far past when that could happen. I've done that five times with this show. This show does not seem to end,” she told THR with a laugh. “I stopped trying to think about what the last moment of the show is going to be because we reinvent it at the beginning of every season, and it's a different show each season.”

Keeping the show new and different (or “fresh,” as Shonda explains) is the biggest challenge, wanting to make sure it’s been reinventing itself every season. While she values creativity, she has to halt her creative ideas in one form, stopping herself from letting new show ideas come to fruition.

“I have this new idea for a show, and it starts in my head and I'm trying to keep it there. I'm trying to focus on Grey's and Scandal,” she admitted. “It's just that period of time where my brain starts clicking on something new again. I'm not going to say anything else because anything I say will get me a call from ABC saying, ‘What's this idea? What can we do?’ That's what keeps me up. It's trying to not make more shows.”

While we’d welcome any new Shondaland shows, it’s great to hear that she’s honing in her focus on Thursday nights. How do you think Grey’s should end? Sound off in the comments below, and catch the 200th episode tomorrow, Thursday, October 10, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
