Callie (Sara Ramirez) fought for her job, her reputation, and the solvency of the hospital in the episode of Grey's Anatomy that aired tonight — Season 10, Episode 9: "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" — as she battled a malpractice suit resulting from a series of unfortunate events.

We have mixed feelings about this episode. On one hand, the writers did a fantastic job setting up a medical case that spiraled out of control because of sheer circumstance. On the surface, and at the start of the episode, it certainly seemed like Callie was to blame. But as the episode progressed — and especially as Callie took the stand — we realized that she actually made the best choices she could under extreme pressure.

Then came a really good twist — Callie had been warned about the possibility of infection by the manufacturer of the joint weeks before the surgery, and she had accidentally overlooked the mail. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) convinced her to not 'fess up, saying that it was just a mistake and that could cost Callie her career. Callie kept it hush-hush, and she won the case, though not happily.

What we weren't so fond of was the reveal that Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) had once been pregnant. We hate to kick a woman when she's down — and we never mean to trivialize the trauma of a miscarriage — but check out our thoughts on why we think this was a lame plotline.

Good thing Callie's dad was around to help Callie make sense of her relationship with Arizona — and to assure her, by recounting own experience with Callie's mother, that there is life after cheating. Callie takes his advice to heart, offering Arizona an olive branch and an invitation home. Unfortunately, Callie has no idea that Leah (Tessa Ferrer) is hiding naked in Arizona's hotel room.
