We already knew that Grey’s Anatomy’s Eric Dane (RIP Mark Sloan!) would be returning to our TV screens via his new TNT Navy drama, The Last Ship, next summer — yay! But recently, Eric’s shared some brand new details about the show… and how it compares to his last TV venture, Grey’s.
The show, which is based on the novel of the same name, is all about Eric, who plays a Navy captain who “helps rescue humanity after an infectious disease kills most of the world’s population.” Contagion, anyone?
“We’ve somehow found a way to handle the scope of this, with the action, but make it character-driven and intelligent, as well,” Eric told USA Today. “It’s smart popcorn. It’s air-popped.”
And action is definitely what we can expect, considering that the show is brought to us from Transformers director Michael Bay.
Eric also admitted that, while he enjoyed being on Grey’s Anatomy, he’s ready for a new challenge.
“This character is a little bit more suited to me for who I am,” Eric said. “I’m having a really great time.”
Whether he’s a military man or a surgeon, we’re watching. Just don’t forget those shirtless scenes, Captain McSteamy!
