Original story (February 12, 2014): A new doctor is on the Grey's Anatomy horizon, and he'll be played by veteran TV actor Patrick Fabian.
TV Guide reports that Patrick will join the medical drama in April for a recurring role as a "pediatric surgeon who comes in to help Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital" — meaning he'll probably work closely with our regular tiny-human doctors, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Alex (Justin Chambers).
We'll bet our entire Grey's DVD collection that the 49-year-old thespian is playing Dr. Oliver Lebackes, the recurring character we reported would be checking into the show in Season 10, Episode 18. Oliver is described as a "funny, caring sweetie" of a 40-something doctor who may be a little over-confident.
After all, casting sides posted to SpoilerTV reveal that Lebackes does indeed work with child patients. And — as further proof — Episode 18 will indeed air in April.
Patrick seems like one of the hardest-working men in Hollywood — his TV filmography is a mile long. His biggest roles on the small screen include recurring characters on Big Love, Veronica Mars, and Joan of Arcadia. But he has also guest-starred on The Newsroom, Hawaii Five-0, Desperate Housewives, Drop Dead Diva, NCIS, Bones… the list goes on.
Shondaland devotees might recognize him from his recent stints on Private Practice and Scandal. (He played a sexting senator in the latter.)
In any case, how interesting is it that Grey Sloan Memorial only seems to hire good-looking surgeons…
Update (February 14, 2014): What did we tell ya? Patrick shared a photo of himself alongside Jessica Capshaw and Justin Chambers on the Grey's set on February 13. Sorry, Dempsey — there's a new Patrick in town!
