It’s been mere days since John Travolta accidentally created Idina Menzel’s alterego, Adele Dazeem, at the Oscars, and the whole flub up has taken on a life of its own. Practically overnight, everyone started turning to the Adele Dazeem Name Generator to Travoltify their names, so it doesn’t sound like the movie musical legend is going to live this one down anytime soon.
But John’s not worried — he already released a statement on Tuesday apologizing for the mixup, although he offered no explanation as to why it might have happened. Guess the jury’s still out on what was going on behind the scenes that day.
“I’ve been beating myself up all day,” John’s statement said, according to People. “Then, I thought, what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go! Let it go!’” What a comedian.
“Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!” John added.
We’re glad John’s not taking the backlash from his mistake too hard, and according to reports, neither is Idina. In fact, sources close to the Wicked star say she thought it was funny. Which, obviously, we all did.
Better luck next time, John! You know, if they let you introduce anyone again.
