Hail to the Chief!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alfre Woodard has been cast as the President of the United States in State of Affairs, the new NBC political drama starring Grey's Anatomy alum Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens).

The four-time Emmy nominee will play President Roberta Payton, who recruits Katherine's character, Charles "Charlie" Whitney Tucker, to brief her on each day's national threats. Oh, and Charlie happens to be the ex-girlfriend of the President's late son.

In addition to her four Emmy wins, the 61-year-old has racked up 18 nominations. (Whoa!) Her notable roles of late include turns in 12 Years a Slave, Steel Magnolias, True Blood, and Desperate Housewives.

Of course, Grey's viewers might recognize Alfre as the romance novelist who dictates her latest story to Lexie (Chyler Leigh) before suffering a burst heart aneurysm in Season 8's "Heart-Shaped Box."

State of Affairs is still in the pilot phase, so there's a chance that NBC will opt to not air the show, depending on how worthy NBC deems it against the network's slate of new and returning shows for the 2014-2015 season.

We just wonder how Katherine's new TV boss will compare to Bailey! (We're sure the "When I run, you run" rule still applies!)
