Grey's Anatomy is already losing Cristina (Sandra Oh), Shane (Gaius Charles), and Leah (Tessa Ferrer) at the end of Season 10 — but could Alex be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, too?

It sure sounds like he's considering an exit, from what Justin tells TV Guide!

Justin says the arrival of new peds surgeon Dr. Oliver Lebackes (Patrick Fabian) in the episode airing this Thursday, April 3 — Season 10, Episode 18: "You Be Illin'" — inspires his onscreen alter-ego to rethink his career prospects.

"Alex thinks, 'Maybe I need to possibly think about joining a private practice.' He's starting to see that he could profit a little more than he has."

As Richard correctly observed way back when, Alex is a perpetual underdog, so it's understandable that he might be chomping at the bit for a way to get ahead.

But what we don't know yet is why Oliver's arrival has Alex thinking about jumping ship. Does Alex's new colleague inspire him — or threaten him?

And frankly, we're surprised that it's Oliver who has Alex contemplating a move and not the very first character of whom we think when we hear the words "private practice" — Alex's friend and occasional bedfellow, Addison Forbes Montgomery (Kate Walsh).

But don't fret too much, people. Our Shonda-sense says that Justin Chambers will return for the show's all-but-confirmed Season 11 and that — even if he leaves for a while — Alex will return to Grey Sloan.

Do you think Alex will say goodbye to the hospital, if only for a little bit? Let us know in the comments below.

Grey's Anatomy Season 10, Episode 18 — "You Be Illin'" — airs Thursday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
