We hate to say it, but it’s the truth: After tonight’s episode — Season 10, Episode 21: “Change of Heart” — we only have three episodes with Cristina Yang left. Boo!
But Cristina’s not leaving yet, and tonight, she has to deal with the aftermath of not winning the Harper Avery award. Wait, no… actually, everyone but Cristina is dealing with it.
Miss the episode? Just want to obsess over what happened with us? Here are the highlights:
The shock of Cristina not winning the Harper Avery award is the focus of most of the episode. Meredith’s reaction? Pretty much mirrors ours when we found out Cristina lost. She’s a woman on a mission, and she’s mad at anyone and everyone with the last name Avery.
So is Richard, and he takes his issue directly to the woman in charge: Catherine. After much arguing, she finally reveals that Cristina never could’ve won as long as the hospital’s owned by the foundation — whether she deserved that award or not. Which is when Richard chooses to whip out the engagement ring he was planning to present to Catherine. Yeah, not so much proposing going on anymore.
The real clincher? Cristina did win the award. She got the most votes. She just couldn’t be given the award. And, um, Cristina is pretty miffed, but that seems as though it's to be continued next week.
Alex has been offered a job with the private practice and has to decide what he’s going to do. Stay with the hospital he’s operated at his entire career, or go for the big bucks and an easier schedule? Step one is to tell Arizona, who unsurprisingly doesn’t want him to go.
Ultimately, Alex decides to go with Oliver’s practice, and gives his notice. Why do we feel like he’ll be back?
We also get to welcome back Derek’s sister, Amelia. She’s freaking out. Her boyfriend, Josh, proposed to her… and she doesn’t know how to do the family thing. She only knows how to do the high-powered surgeon thing. So she’s come to Seattle to get lessons from Meredith and Derek. And after babysitting Bailey and Zola, the dreamhouse is in a total state of disarray. Amy, we have a lot of work to do.
And, of course, the Jackson and April shocker. Still feuding (much to the dismay of Callie and Arizona, who are still housing April during their fight) our not-so-happy newlyweds come together at the end of the episode. Jackson thinks marriage is about powering through this fight and making good on the commitment they made each other, but April’s not done arguing about the religious upbringing of their hypothetical future children.
Because the kids aren’t hypothetical anymore. They’re real. April’s pregnant. Boom. Is your mind blown yet?
