But we can still celebrate the actor, T.R. Knight, who's alive and well! In fact, today's his special day! He turns 42 today, March 26, 2015.
So what has he been up to in the years since his Grey's exit?
On television, T.R. appeared in a 2011 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit — "Dual Strand" — playing twin brothers accused of rape. He also had an arc as political advisor Jordan Karahalios on Season 4 of The Good Wife. He recently filmed a role as a death-row convict in the Amazon pilot Hysteria, opposite Mena Suvari, but the company decided not to pick up the series.
On the silver screen, T.R. played real-life sportswriter Harold Parrott in 42, the 2013 biopic of baseball legend Jackie Robinson. Funnily enough, his former TV boss, James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber), also had a small role in the movie.
T.R. is also a star of the upcoming indie drama A Year and Change, opposite Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung.
But the bulk of the T.R.'s time seems to have been spent in the theater. He co-starred with Patrick Stewart in the 2010 Broadway revival of A Life in the Theater. Off-Broadway, he tread the boards in the plays Sold, Romeo and Juliet, and Pocatello, along with several staged readings. And on the other coast, he starred in a production of The Seagull and a revival of the musical Parade in Los Angeles.
Most importantly, T.R. found love since leaving Grey's! He started dating Patrick Leahy around 2010 and married him in upstate New York in October 2013, with former Grey's co-stars Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens) and Kate Walsh (Addison Montgomery) on hand to bear witness.
So glad to see he's doing well post-Grey's. We'd say we'd want him back on the show, but we dare say the medical drama has seen enough ghosts.
