The Grey's Anatomy cast is getting ready to start filming Season 11 this Friday, July 25 — but one actor has more prep work to do than anyone else. TVLine reports that Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) is directing the season premiere!

As devout Grey's fans know, this isn't the Scot's first time behind the camera. Far from it! This will be his eighth time in the Grey's director's chair — not counting his work with the webisodes.

Kevin made his on-air directorial debut midway through Season 7 and has since directed two episodes per season.

In Season 10, for example, he directed Episode 8 ("Two Against One") — in which Cristina (Sandra Oh) steals Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) 3D printer and Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) obsessive tendencies worsen — and Episode 19 ("I'm Winning") — in which Cristina learns she's a Harper Avery nominee.

But Kevin previously directed four of the six installments of the Seattle Grace: Message of Hope web series which ran concurrent to Season 7 — which focused on Richard's (James Pickens Jr.) effort to make a PSA restoring the reputation of the then-bullet-riddled hospital.

In terms of pulling double duty, Kevin has a bit of catching up to do — Chandra Wilson has already directed 10 episodes.

But hey, we're in full support of any and all chances for our fave actors to bulk up their creative muscles!

Grey's Anatomy Season 11 premieres Thursday, September 25, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
